1. Golden State Warriors last week 1

Memphis barbeque is legendary for a reason. The Itis may have caught up to the Warriors as the Grizzlies blew them out, but an impressive win over the Clippers keeps them in the top spot.

  1. Cleveland Cavaliers last week 3

The Cavaliers also came away with an impressive win over the Raptors, despite losing J.R. Smith early in the game. A 4-0 week for the Cavs was highlighted by LeBron averaging 33-8-8 over that stretch.

  1. Houston Rockets last week 6

The Rockets have been dominant over their six game winning streak highlighted by wins over the Warriors, Celtics and Thunder. While those last two were too close for comfort, credit must be given to a Rockets team that’s getting it done.

  1. Toronto Raptors last week 4

The Raptors have won 8 of their last 9 with the lone loss to the Cavaliers. The team has gone back to sitting Valanciunas during most meaningful fourth quarter minutes and are closing strong.

  1. San Antonio Spurs last week 2

Like the Raptors, the Spurs are 8-2 in their last ten games. Although the loss to the Bulls was an embarrassing one that left Gregg Popovich fuming. Outside of that things have been going well for the Spurs.

  1. Memphis Grizzlies last week 9

The Grizzlies have won 6 straight, including a dominant win over the Warriors. The team typically hasn’t been winning by much, but the fact that they are hanging on without Mike Conley is truly impressive.

  1. Utah Jazz last week 13

The Jazz are one of the hottest teams in the league going 8-2 over their last ten games. They’re also one of three teams currently top ten in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

  1. Chicago Bulls last week 8

The win against the Spurs covers up the fact that this team has looked mediocre lately. Wins over the Spurs and Heat have the Bulls on the right track, but look for them to come back down to earth soon.

  1. Oklahoma City Thunder last week 10

The Thunder have won 7 of their last 8, albeit against some pretty soft competition. Westbrook has continued to be dominant, including closing out the Celtics in a game that came down to the wire.

  1. Charlotte Hornets last week 12

The Hornets having been taking care of business lately against a fairly easy schedule. Despite going down to a motivated Cavs team, they managed to battle back and keep it competitive.

  1. New York Knicks last week 14

That’s right, it’s the Knicks. Currently tied for 3rd in the Eastern Conference and owners of a 7-3 record over their last ten. While they are mostly beating bad teams, credit must be given for beating teams you are supposed to beat.

  1. L.A. Clippers last week 5

The Clippers failed to show up against the Pacers and Warriors, but followed that up with a beating of the lowly Pelicans. Over the last 10 games the Clippers have gone .500, a far cry from their dominant start.

  1. Boston Celtics last week 7

Speaking of mediocre, the Celtics have lost 3 of their last 4 and look nothing like the juggernaut many predicted at the beginning of the season. While injuries have impacted the roster, the defensive potential has been killed by their inability to rebound.

  1. Milwaukee Bucks last week 11

The Bucks are currently sitting outside of the playoffs, but they also possess the 7th best point differential in the East. They are likely better than their record, but the question is if this young team can hold it together when things get tough.

  1. Indiana Pacers last week 15

The Pacers are one of the more uneven teams in the league at the moment. But outside of their loss to the Mavericks, they’ve been playing quality basketball as of late. But until Indiana starts consistently playing at the level they’re capable of playing to, they will struggle to jump up the rankings.

  1. Detroit Pistons last week 17

Like the Pacers, the Pistons are as uneven as it gets. They handled the Bulls and Timberwolves while losing to the Sixers. Detroit is a team with a desperate need for identity.

  1. Portland Trail Blazers last week 16

The Trail Blazers are horrendous defensively and are showing no signs of turning their season around. Fortunately for them they are playing in a top heavy Western Conference so they likely will stumble into the playoffs.

  1. Atlanta Hawks last week 19

The Hawks got back on track with a win over the zombie remains of the Miami Heat and the Bucks. Getting Millsap back into the rotation obviously helps, but the flaws with this team go beyond guys missing games.

  1. Denver Nuggets last week not ranked

The Nuggets missed an opportunity on their East coast trip to put some wins under their belts, going 2-2 with losses to the Nets and Wizards. You’re never sure which Nuggets team will show up on a night to night basis, but they’re tremendous when they do show up. One has to wonder how long they can go before Jamal Murray forces them to start him.

  1. Washington Wizards last week not ranked

Don’t look now but Washington is actually finding ways to win lately. If they want to keep John Wall from going full Arenas, they may want to keep this up.
